Krzysztof Klincewicz published jointly with Dr. Arkadiusz Manikowski a book, presenting the methods of evaluating, ranking and selecting of technologies (ORS model, named after its Polish name: “ocena, rankingowanie i selekcja technologii“). The proposed model was rooted in a previous R&D project, contracted by the Institute for Sustainable Technologies (Instytut Technologii Eksploatacji, ITEE). Researchers offered an overview of technology evaluation methods and criteria, presented in the specialist literature, and developed an algorithm, using 184 detailed criteria clustered into 12 thematic groups, supported by quantitative methods from the operational research domain. The algorithm is useful for R&D performers, planning to introduce new solutions to the market or organizations, preparing the acquisition and implementation of technologies. It may also prove instrumental in evaluating project applications or making decisions about investments in technological ventures. The ORS model can be applied to four typical scenarios: selecting new research directions, evaluating results of the ongoing R&D projects, analyzing technologies prepared for commercialization and selecting technologies for internal implementation.
