The success of the EIT Food RIS Fellowships project – how we managed to overcome challenges!

We are proud to announce the spectacular success of EIT Food RIS Fellowships 2020 edition!

Congratulations to 54 students, who among the limitations and challenges that appeared due to COVID-19 took part in a professional internship. Thanks to their impressive knowledge, engagement and being extremely flexible, they were able to move abroad and take a chance to develop their competencies of analytical and critical thinking, problem-solving and communication.

Some of 2020’s participants decided to make cross-country mobility, but also few of them took a chance to take part in an on-line type of internship. Additionally, being updated with government changes, many interns mixed modes during the hybrid type of internship.

It is certainly enough to say that students are pleased to take this internship opportunity and improve their hands-on experience in the agri-food sector. Moreover, they enhanced the business network by working in an international environment. Although they met a few challenges on their way, they all say that it was a precious and developing experience.

It is worth to add that many of our PhD students were very satisfied with the opportunity to carry on their R&D works and have the possibility to verify current results with the fresh look of business mentors. Meanwhile, master students got out of their comfort zone, moving abroad and meeting new and genuinely different working environment, having a chance to develop work-related skills and competencies. Participants assured us that it was worth to take effort to get this chance!

Please let me introduce you to our 2020 interns! (lista z nazwiskami chyba lepiej by była w załączonym pliku)

Changes in the organization of internships in 2020

Due to prevent and slow the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) the EIT Food RIS Fellowships project decided to take a relevant actions. After deep analysis and consultations with EIT representatives the following solutions have been developed.

Each student recruited by Host Company will have the opportunity to do an internship in three modes:

1) stationary: We hope that for candidates from some countries “cross-country mobility” option might be possible but no sooner than in the autumn.

2) on-line: The second option – assumes the implementation of the internship only in a remote way. Some Host Companies declared their interest in offering online internships and ability to organize interns work remotely.

3) hybrid (stationary & on-line): The third mode – assumes that the student will start the internship on-line, and if the global situation improves and allows international travels, he/she will move to the company to continue the internship on the spot.

Changes in subgrants amounts
Due to the fact that financial support provided to interns is to cover the costs of participation in the internship abroad and in on-line form, the costs are expected to be changed, because of lack of necessity to travel, pay for additional accommodation or cover all other expenses while living outside of homeplace.

The costs in each mode are different, that is why we offer the following division of financial support:

RIS Fellowships (MSc students and graduates)

  1. Stationary mode – 1350,00 EUR per month
  2. On-line mode – 650,00 EUR per month

RIS Talents (Ph.D. students and post-docs)

  1. Stationary mode – 2000,00 EUR per month
  2. On-line mode – 850,00 EUR per month

In Hybrid mode, financial support would be given pro rata according to the time spent on each form of internship. We allow the possibility of changing the internship mode during the month. In this case, the costs will be calculated accordingly (part of the month in online mode, the rest in stationary mode).

We hope that the above changes will minimize the spread of COVID-19 but at the same time will enable our students to complete a challenging, qualitative and safe internship!
