Krzysztof Klincewicz wrote a book on strategic alliances in the high-tech industry, published by a German academic publisher Logos Verlag. The book uses the model of high-tech value chain to explain the inter-dependencies among technological companies, encouraging their co-operation but also imposing certain relationship patterns, which are linked to technological characteristics of products and services offered. Klincewicz identified three possible alliancing strategies: value chain leaders, complementors and service providers, pointing to the difficulties in a possible “do-it-yourself” approach, not feasible in advanced technological markets. The book was based on extensive research, using among others qualitative material concerning NTT DoCoMo, Microsoft, Cisco, Infosys and other high-tech companies, as well as quantitative data from the US stock exchanges, alongside bibliometric measures.
