Krzysztof Klincewicz was invited to present at TEDx Warsaw conference, discussing the sometimes difficult relations between scientists and academic publishers. Business models of scientific publishing companies are struggling to come to terms with the emerging open access movement, and the academic community found it difficult to come to terms with the dramatic events following the arrest of an alleged hacker Aaron Swartz, who publicly declared his belief in the need to assure free access to scientific research outcomes. In Poland, scientists are at the same time experiencing increase pressure from their employing institutions, which started actively managing the IPRs linked to the academic inventions. These multi-dimensional problems were subject of the TEDx speech, outlining the challenges for researchers, their employers and publishers.
